Satan has a kingdom just like God has a kingdom.  Principalities refer to levels in Satan’s kingdom. The Bible is about a King (God, Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirit) and His kingdom (saved servants).  And because Satan cannot create anything new, he can only duplicate what God has already created.

There are many levels to Satan’s kingdom.  On the lower level you have demons who impersonate the dead and speak through people who channel at demonic gatherings such as seances.

Another level of demons are more demonic and tempt others to abuse and mame, while another level of demonic forces murder and torture others, and so forth.

Ephesians, Chapter 6, Verse 12

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

This verse in Ephesians clearly states that there is a spirit world that is invisible. Flesh and blood is what mankind has the ability to see in visual form. But this passage in the book of Ephesians tells us about another spiritual existence that we wrestle against. Unfortunately most people don’t acknowledge this spiritual world even exists. For those that do, their beliefs are often labeled as “cultic,” or “a strange phenomena.” The goal of Satan is always to make non-followers believe he does not exist and is a fairy tale character.  But ask any Satanist who belongs to the Church of Satan in San Francisco, California if Satan is real and they will tell you that he not only is doing well but how happy they are to worship him.

The following are some Bible references to help you in your study on this topic:

Jeremiah, Chapter 13, Verse 18

Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down: for your principalities shall come down, even the crown of your glory.

Romans, Chapter 8, Verse 38

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, not things present, nor things to come. Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ephesians, Chapter 3, Verse 10

To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God.

Colossians, Chapter 1, Verses 15-16

Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him.

Colossians, Chapter 2, Verses 14-15

Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

Titus, Chapter 3, Verse 1

Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work.

Remember to always pray and ask God to guide your thoughts when you are studying His word. He wants you to understand the truth but you should always put forth the effort to show Him the desire of your heart is to love and worship Him, not look for fault and ridicule Him.  A mind filled with hate will only close doors in your understanding. I pray that you possess a Godly focus.
